Alongside my more figurative work on landscape, I regularly explore abstraction. I move fluidly between figuration and abstraction because, for me, both are fundamentally about space. These abstract works can be seen as landscapes in which I’ve abandoned recognizable forms to focus on space, distance, and movement. These paintings are, at their core, about opening a space. As with my figurative pieces, these works are rooted in the experience of the world—an attempt to dissolve boundaries and erase the familiar position of a subject observing an object.
